The FDNY is reminding New Yorkers about the importance of electrical safety in a newly released Public Service Announcement (PSA).
Over the weekend of April 19, the FDNY responded to six multiple-alarm fires. Investigations determined that ALL the fires were caused by various electrical issues.
At a Public Information Briefing on Sunday, April 20, 2025, FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker provided an update on a fatal 2-alarm fire in Queens.

The FDNY held a promotion ceremony for fire officers on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island.
Members were promoted to the rank of captain and lieutenant. Additionally, EMTs graduated from the medic upgrade program to become paramedics. The newly promoted members will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
